“India’s First Digital Crop Insurance App Launched to Simplify Claims and Boost Farmer Security”
In a pioneering move, India has launched its first digital crop insurance app, designed to simplify the process of insuring crops and filing claims. Named “Kisan Suraksha,” the app offers farmers a digital platform to register, view policy details, upload proof of loss, and submit claims without needing to visit insurance offices. The app uses satellite imagery and weather data to verify claims, ensuring faster processing times and minimizing the potential for fraud.
The app is part of the government’s larger goal to improve accessibility to crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and enhance the resilience of farmers against unpredictable weather. In addition to claim management, Kisan Suraksha provides real-time weather updates, crop advisory services, and market price insights, enabling farmers to make better-informed decisions about their crops.
This digital innovation is particularly beneficial in rural areas, where lack of internet connectivity and distance from insurance offices have traditionally hindered farmers’ access to crop insurance. With Kisan Suraksha, crop insurance is now more accessible and transparent, offering peace of mind to farmers and helping protect their livelihoods from the impact of climate change and crop failures.
