“India Launches ‘One Nation, One Fertilizer’ Scheme to Streamline Agricultural Supplies”
The Indian government recently introduced the “One Nation, One Fertilizer” (ONOF) scheme, a policy designed to unify fertilizer brands across the country under a single brand called “Bharat.” With India’s agricultural sector heavily reliant on chemical fertilizers, the ONOF scheme aims to make fertilizers more affordable and accessible for farmers, reducing logistical bottlenecks and price discrepancies.
Under this scheme, all subsidized fertilizers like urea, DAP (diammonium phosphate), and others will be sold in uniform packaging across states, making it easier for farmers to identify authentic and high-quality fertilizers. This move is expected to cut down on fake and substandard fertilizers, ensuring farmers get consistent quality nationwide. The scheme also aims to streamline the supply chain, eliminating the need for multiple brands and reducing regional supply shortages.
Experts believe that the ONOF scheme will make farming more efficient and cost-effective, especially for smallholder farmers who often face inflated prices. Additionally, the unified branding and streamlined distribution channels are expected to boost yields, providing much-needed support for India’s food security and agricultural sustainability goals.
